Police are warning film buffs to watch out for stolen DVDs after a film projectionist has his entire collection of movies stolen.
The 29-year-old projectionist had returned home with his partner to his ground floor flat in Witchards, Basildon, on Tuesday afternoon to find burglars had broken into his home.
They had smashed a bathroom window to gain access, but not before attempting to kick-in the front door, which showed signs of damage.
Inside, the man found to his horror that along with a Pioneer DVD player and a Sony video recorder, were his collection of films - 500 DVDs - missing.
In addition, the crooks had also stolen a digital camera and a blue duvet from his bed. Police believe the thieves then left through a bedroom window.
Det Sgt Joel Henderson of Basildon CID said: "In total this man had around £8,500 worth of goods stolen. He clearly has spent a lot of time and effort to build up his film collection and this burglary has been quite a blow to him."
Anyone with information should contact Det Sgt Joel Henderson on 01268 532212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
