Up-and-coming child star Darcy Perry turned down a golden opportunity to appear on television so she could take part in her school's Christmas play.
Darcy, nine, of Labworth Road, Canvey, is no stranger to the stage and screen.
Thank you - Darcy Perry discusses her decision with school head Rosemary Morgan Picture: DAVE HENDERSON
For the past 18 months, she has been seen regularly on television, starring in adverts for McDonald's and Yakult among others.
She has also been in EastEnders and appeared alongside Ant and Dec on their Slap Bang show.
Perhaps her biggest achievement so far was to win a role in the West End spectacular, Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang, which she has been appearing in for the last seven months at the London Palladium.
Most recently, Darcy won a speaking role in an advert for food giant, KFC. But she was horrified to find out it clashed with her school's nativity play in which she was to star as Mary and sing a solo.
Darcy made the difficult decision to stay loyal to her school and perform at the Christmas play.
Proud headteacher, Rosemary Morgan, of St Katherine's School, in Hilton Road, Canvey, said: "We are really pleased she has shown her commitment and has put us first."
