Residents fighting for car parking space on land to be sold off by Braintree Council have threatened to chain themselves to a building.

About 20 residents from the Bradford Street area of Braintree have met their MP, Alan Hurst, who has suported their campaign.

He has written to the council's chief executive about the matter.

Bradford Street resident Jennifer Mumford, 28, said: "If we have to, we will chain ourselves to the building. They are not going to sell that land from under us."

People living in the neighbourhood say parking is at a premium.

They use ground at the site, which has a former maltings building and another building on it, to park. Some have temporary permission to use spaces there.

They are concerned there will be nowhere else to park when the council sells the land.
