A 70-year-old Basildon man has won a writing competition just a year after learning how to use a computer.
Albert Lee, of Bonnygate, was encouraged to write by his daughter and is now a member of the Essex Writers' Circle, which organised the annual competition.

He wrote a story about Wat Tyler, the original poll tax rebel, and that led him to win a cup and £25.
He said: "I researched about Wat Tyler in history books. I have been in the writing circle for a year after my daughter's taunt to get me to learn how to use a computer, and I thought 'I'll show her'. It took me five months to learn.
He added: "I have written a book of short stories, which I am trying to get published."
