Plans for a new skateboard park in Braintree have passed their final hurdle.
Braintree area committee councillors voted overwhelmingly last night in favour of building a skatepark in Weavers Park in Coggeshall Road.
Several members of the public spoke in support of the plans.
Weavers Park was chosen from a shortlist of nine possible sites during a consultation involving Braintree Council officers and Braintree police. It is hoped the central location will also be convenient for children in rural areas.
David Mann (Lab, Bocking North) said: "I am happy to give my support in the belief this will kickstart the whole area."
Braintree Council set aside £169,000 for skateboarding projects.
