Chelmsford's Harvest for the Hungry (H4H) appeal is calling on generous residents to spend more than a penny and help raise £20,000 for new indoor toilets at a Bulgarian orphanage.
The campaign will help change the lives of 120 Bulgarian orphans at an orphanage H4H has 'adopted' in the village of Berkovitsa, in the mountainous north of the country.
The Chelmsford branch of the national charity is making it convenient for people to help after setting up a mobile toilet cash collector in the town's Meadows Shopping Centre.
Children at the orphanage are suffering because although the staff care for them to the best of their ability, they simply do not have the money or resources to do the job as well as they would like.
H4H fundraiser the Rev Roger Stark, from Chelmsford's Springfield Park Baptist Church, explained: "We are determined to give the orphanage an enduring Christmas present. It would be a life-enhancing gift.
If you want to donate £50 or more and are a UK taxpayer, please give under the Gift Aid scheme, which makes your donation worth almost 30 per cent more. For details, please phone the helpline on 01245 259387.
