A pet shop owner is over the moon his business is not to be swallowed up by a housing development.
Tiptree Pet and Aquatic Centre was facing an end to its 30-year life in the village's Church Road if planning permission was granted to build 12 houses in front of it.
Owner Geoff Hughes feared if the homes were given the go-ahead his lease would not be renewed.
But last night Colchester Council planning committee recommended permission for the development be refused.
Speaking after the committee meeting, Mr Hughes said: "I'm over the moon, particularly for all those people who supported us. Im overwhelmed."
