Praise was today heaped upon a scheme to erect a town sign in Hadleigh - which was the first project to benefit from the new funding given to area forums.
The meetings - which provide an opportunity for residents to voice their views to councillors face-to-face - have been awarded a budget of £5,000 for each council ward.
At the Hadleigh and Daws Heath area forum, residents and councillors put their heads together and agreed to allocate £1,100 towards putting up a new town sign - a project organised by the Hadleigh Women's Institute.
Leader of the council Dave Wells (Lab, St George's) gave his backing to the scheme.
He said: "This is just the sort of thing this money should be used for and I welcome the budgets being used in this way.
"It is good to see the council working with local residents and the idea is we want a bit more local democracy."
