A distraught mother has told how the car she uses to ferry her severely disabled son around was written-off outside her home.

And she has made a desperate appeal for help to find those responsible.

Jackie Bartlett had no idea another vehicle had smashed into the blue Ford Fiesta until the damage was spotted by another member of the family on Wednessday.

She went outside the house in Abbott Road, Dovercourt, to a scene of devastation.

"All the side had been caved in, the bumper was hanging off and the car was a wreck," she said.

"I have had the garage come and tow it away and it is a total write-off."

Mrs Bartlett uses the car to take her son, Aarron Todd, to therapy with Headway and to college for people with special needs.

The 28-year-old received massive head injuries when he was in a collision in West Street, Harwich, nearly three years ago.

She said: "If anyone saw anything could they please contact Harwich police who are investigating the incident."
