Fears are growing that traffic congestion in village streets would be made worse if a new housing development goes ahead.

Residents in Parkeston have said the narrow roads would not be able to cope if 77 houses were built in Una Road.

They are worried fire engines would not be able to get down the roads in an emergency.

The parish council has been told crowded parking on street corners is already causing problems for rubbish collections.

John Coughlin, transport representative for Ramsey and Parkeston Parish Council, said he heard a dustcart had been unable to collect from Edward Street.

He said: "Parking is such a problem on the corner of Edward Street that the dustcart was unable to get up there.

"There were cars parked right on the corner and it had to go away and send a smaller vehicle later on."
