Major improvements to Braintree health services are on the cards after a boost of almost £113.5 million.

Witham, Braintree and Halstead Care Trust chief Paul Zollinger-Read welcomed the 34 per cent boost, bringing the Trust's total spending money to almost £334 million over the next three years.

He said: "There are many important issues we need to address which are set out in the NHS Plan.

"The best way of achieving many of our objectives is to ensure we have a robust infrastructure in place in our local community so that we can meet both our local health and social care needs without delay.

"We are committed to reducing delays many people currently experience waiting for hospital appointments or operations and will be working to reduce waiting times over the next three years.

"Areas such as children's services and mental health, as well as primary care services also need addressing, and this extra funding will certainly help."

The cash came as the Government announced a £400 million boost for Essex health services during the next three years.
