An attacker who held a girl at knifepoint in Lexden had a scar under his right eye.

Detectives are hunting a man who approached his 17-year-old victim on a pathway off Park Road, alongside a Colchester Royal Grammar School playing field

They believe he may also be responsible for an attempted rape in the area and are appealing for anyone who thinks they may know him to come forward.

The attacker, who was wearing distinctive paint-spattered boots, approached the girl at about 10.40am on Tuesday.

He asked her for a light then threatened her and put a knife to her neck. Her ordeal ended when she faked an asthma attack and the man let go of her and ran off.

The attacker was white, in his 30s, 6ft tall and slim with brown, greying hair in a cropped, skin-head haircut and carried a blue rucksack.

He was wearing a blue, hip-length raincoat, a grey fleece, light blue jeans and cream boots, which were scuffed with white paint on them.

Police have now said he also had a 1cm-long scar under his right eye.
