Title favourites Tamworth proved their Championship worth on Saturday, hammering Paul Parker's Chelmsford City at New Lodge.

The Lambs have won nine out of ten matches on the way to their leadership of the Dr Martens Premier, and they were soon into their stride on a soggy pitch with Paul Hatton setting up Andy Turner for the opener on 15 minutes.

Past that, City struggled to find any real rhythm, restricting themselves to long-range efforts for the remainder of the half.

Meanwhile, Tamworth continued their swift attacking breaks, and forced a second goal on 26 minutes as Scott Rickards fired home past a hopelessly exposed Paul Nicholls.

Dale Watkins smacked a shot against the Tamworth crossbar as City looked to come strong late in the half, but the points were made safe for the Warwickshire outfit just after the restart as Rickards' shot hit the bar and Nick Colley smashed in the rebound.

City didn't give up the fight though Watkins' miss in front of goal summed up their afternoon.

And Tamworth celebrated daylight at the top of the Dr Martens Premier as Mark Hallam rattled a fourth to confirm City's heaviest defeat of the campaign.
