A teenager was slashed across the face with a knife by muggers who stole his wallet

The attack took place in the area of Pier Avenue and Rosemary Road, Clacton, at about 5pm yesterday.

The 14-year-old had been shopping in the town centre and had bought a pair of tracksuit trousers from the QD store in Rosemary Road.

It was after he had left the shop and was walking round the corner that he was approached by the two youths.

Insp Mick Ornellas said the pair threatened the boy with the knife.

The boy handed over his wallet, which contained a small amount of cash, and the muggers also made off with the trousers he had just bought.

Police believe the attack could be linked to a second mugging in a churchyard.

A man was approached about half an hour after the first mugging in St John's churchyard in Great Clacton.

He was told to hand over his wallet but hit his assailant in the face with his umbrella.

The mugger fled empty handed.

The attackers in the first incident were both white and wore blue jeans and white hooded tops. One of them had dark hair and the other had blond hair.

There is no proper description of the mugger in the second attack but it is believed that it could be one of those involved in the earlier one.

Police are investigating the attacks and appealed to anyone who witnessed either incident or who has any information to contact police at Clacton on 01255 221312
