Quick-thinking firefighters have been praised after saving a man's life.
Crews from Grays and Orsett rushed to a home on Saturday morning and found an end-of-terrace house ablaze.
They needed breathing apparatus to get into the building to find a distressed man, thought to be in his 50s.
He was rescued from the burning house in Charnock Green, South Ockendon, before being transferred to Basildon Hospital.
