Creekfarers have given a big thumbs up to new jetties installed at a country park marina.

The new flexible jetties are part of an on-going process to raise standards for the 80 boat-owning licensees at Wat Tyler Marina, in Pitsea, as well as the thousands of visitors to the coastal scene.

The jetties will replace long-span walkways, retired after many years of service.

A spokeswoman for Basildon Council said: "The installation went extremely smoothly, mostly due to the fact that the jetties are of modular construction."

The new walkways are located in Pitsea Creek at the southern end of the popular park and each section is 55 metres long.

The spokeswoman added: "The jetties are more durable and flexible than the old ones they replace and because of the modular construction the cost of any repairs will be less.

"Also, when the tide is out and there is a lot of mud, the new jetties will mould themselves to the contours of the mud."
