Two goals from a player who might have joined them sentenced Wakering to another Ryman Division One North defeat that sees them perilously close to the relegation zone in 19th place.

Matt Harrold turned out for the village side in a pre-season friendly but eventually joined Wingate and Finchley. But he switched his allegiance to Harlow on the eve of this match -- and soon made his mark.

The new towners boss, ex-Billericay manager John Kendall, has a number of former Town men in his squad as they push for promotion.

It was one of them, Glen Southgate, who provided the through ball from which Harrold charged forwards to open the scoring after 48 minutes.

Rovers were rarely able to trouble the home rearguard, although young Dan Ringer, who grabbed a brace in the midweek Thamesside Trophy win over Burnham, did provide some moments of danger when he came on from the bench.

But hopes of grabbing a late equaliser and sharing the spoils disappeared for Wakering two minutes from time when visiting goalkeeper Dave Hudson fumbled a Marc Salmon cross and Harrold was on hand to score his second.
