A total of 255 people from Essex will appear in court this month for failing to buy a TV licence.
This new figure is 100 more than was quoted last week when TV Licensing bosses warned the county's telly addicts there will be no hiding place for licence dodgers over the festive period.
Vanessa Wood, a spokeswoman for TV Licensing, said: "Despite the fact it's Christmas, our inquiry officers will still be sent out on the streets to catch evaders, so no matter what the excuse, they won't get away with it."
