A groom-to-be had to make a cross-country dash to get to his wedding just an hour after appearing in court in Colchester.

Anthony Reynolds, 42, of Great Brays, Harlow, was due to attend his wedding in Harlow as he appeared before magistrates in Colchester and admitted a charge of speeding.

But the matter was adjourned as magistrates heard Reynolds was due at his wedding at 12 noon.

Julie Bryce, for Reynolds, said family were outside waiting with his wedding suit and to whisk him off to the venue where his bride and guests were waiting.

The court heard the incident related to when he was driving in Station Road, Parkeston, in January 2001.

He was released on bail and was due to appear before magistrates in Colchester in August of that year but failed to appear, leading to his arrest the evening before his wedding.

Reynolds also admitted a charge of failing to answer bail.

"It is imperative that he gets there today - there are family waiting outside to get him to his wedding," said Mrs Reynolds.

Magistrates adjourned the case.
