Essex rail firm First Great Eastern has been named as the most punctual train operator in the South East, for the third successive quarter by the Strategic Rail Authority.

And apart from the Isle of Wight Railway , and Arriva Liverpool, FGER is most punctual nationally as well

This time 89.6 per cent of its trains were on time. Compared with 90.6 per and91.3 per cent on schedule in the last quarter of 2001 and first of 2002 respectively.

Compared with other local train companies FGER was 6.9 per cent ahead of WAGN, 5.2 per cent ahead of c2c the Southend train service, and 11 per cent better than long-haul Anglia Railways whose trains are measured as 'on time' if they are within 10 minutes of the schedule.

FGER claims some of the highest customer satisfaction scores in the South East.

"We have worked extremely hard to deliver this level of reliability after the massive impact the Hatfield disaster had on the Great Eastern route," said Dave Kaye, First Great Eastern's managing director.

"The customer satisfaction scores have continued to improve and we rank amongst the very best commuter train operators and this also reflects the continuing improved service".
