A community nurse has won substantial damages from a national newspaper after it had reported an ongoing police inquiry into the deaths of 18 children.
The Sun had published, in June 2000, serious allegations about the way Elaine Chase, from Benfleet, had treated an infant.
She was exonerated by the police inquiry in relation to the deaths of any of the children. The probe found there was no evidence to suspect her of wrongdoing.
