A new Prince's Trust Volunteers scheme is being launched in Thurrock next month and leaders are appealing for help.

The programme - which is run three times a year and is open to unemployed 16-to 25-year-olds - has not run for a year while new leaders were being sought.

But with a start date of January 27, the new team is badly in need of equipment.

"It is unfortunate that the equipment we have has perished over the year - the waterproofs have holes in them and the other equipment has been damaged by damp," said leader Wendy Steed.

The course helps the youngsters gain City and Guilds qualifications while giving something back to the local community and learning new skills.

"The programme is going to give the young people a brighter future," said Wendy.

The team are seeking: sleeping bags and washable liners, waterproof clothing, boots, both steel-capped and wellingtons, training equipment like balls, rope, blindfolds and footballs, masking tape, waterproof gloves, carpet tiles, warm clothing and craft materials like paper, scissors, pens, pencils and glue.

Leaders Wendy and Gary Langford can be contacted on 01375 673243 or 01375 644589.
