Former Southend United favourite Dean Austin will meet Shrimpers boss Rob Newman to discuss a possible Roots Hall return tomorrow.
The right-back made 109 appearances for Blues, scoring three goals, before moving to North London giants Tottenham Hotspur in a £350,000 deal 10 years ago.
But Austin, now 32, is keen to link up with his old club again after being released by First Division Crystal Palace.
"Dean is coming in for a chat tomorrow," confirmed Newman. "He is an experienced player who did well here in the past, before going on to make an even more successful career for himself at Spurs.
"Both my coaches, David Crown and Steve Tilson, played with Dean here and I know he is a good player because I have come up against him on the pitch in the past."
