It was a case of happiness begins at home for Alleyn Court when they won the cross-country relay event they staged for 16 schools at their Wakering Road, Thorpe Bay, home.
They collected the overall title from Brentwood Ursuline and also came out on top in the boys' competition from Brentwood A and Brentwood B.
Home bankers - Alleyn Court's overall winners
The girls' competition was won by Woodlands Preparatory School, from Brentwood, with Alleyn Court second and St Mary's C of E, Southend, in third spot.
A total of 124 pupils representing 16 schools took part in the competition, which saw each team made up of one runner apiece from years four, five and six.
The competition took place in bitterly cold conditions and Alleyn Court's Maureen Quinn said: "Despite the weather the whole event was really successful and the youngsters who took part enjoyed it a great deal.
"We had schools from all over Essex taking part and I'm sure the competition will become an annual affair."
