Tears turned to smiles for James Matthews when his stolen Christmas bike was replaced by big-hearted neighbours.

James, 11, had only ridden it once before it was stolen. People in his street in Great Burstead clubbed together to get an identical bike.

James's dad, Craig Hands, said: "Our neighbours have hearts of gold. It only goes to show that good can come out of really bad situations."

Billericay police believe a thief stole the blue Magna mountain bike, worth £150, from the back garden of the house last Friday. Anyone with information should contact police on 01268 532212.
