It will be the end of one era and the beginning of another one at one of Colchester's top music venues after the announcement The Twist pub in Military Road is being sold.

Run by Kev Hiles for the last 12 years, he and his wife Hollie decided to sell up on Christmas Eve.

And they couldn't have chosen a better candidate to take over the place than Sean Hudson, former manager at the Army and Navy.

There is a new owner at The Twist pub

Since the Chelmsford venue closed a couple of months ago, he has been looking after the Hole in the Wall pub in Colchester.

He said: "When I heard it was up for sale, I was right round there.

"I hadn't been inside for years and I was very impressed with what they have done with the place."

Sean said there would be a few changes, including a new name, The Sound Hause, but the music venue would continue its tradition of nurturing new talent.

Sean added: "We were well known at the Army and Navy for building up local groups and that's something I want to continue here.

"The popular battle of the bands will also remain and will start some time in April."

A carpenter by trade, Kev Hiles transformed what was once the Oliver Twist into one of the best music venues around.

He said: "It's definitely a rollercoaster ride running a venue like this but it has been a fantastic experience."

Kev and Hollie's last gig at The Twist will be on February 1.

The venue will then re-open on February 8, when Sean's first gig will include legendary 1980s ska group Bad Manners.
