Mid Essex could be getting its second mosque.
The Maldon Islamic Cultural Association (MICA) is hoping to buy a cycle shop in Wantz Road, Maldon, and convert it into a place of worship.
The registered charity is currently using the town's Labour Hall in Church Street as a temporary location to hold a service on Fridays but is in need of a permanent base.
The area's other mosque is based in Chelmsford but some worshippers find it difficult to travel there.
The organisation is currently appealing for donations to help with the cost of buying the building and has already raised £20,000.
Planning permission for the building's change of use will also have to be sought.
Anybody who would like to make a donation to the organisation can send a cheque, payable to MICA, to the following address: c/o Barclays Bank, Maldon Branch, 60 High Street, Maldon, Essex, CM9 7PR
