A good evenings entertaiment was provided by both teams at the Riverside Arena last week, with the Chieftains being hard pushed by the youngsters from New York.

The first goal of the evening was a Kyle Amyotte deflection of a Steve Birch shot at 5.10.

They increased the lead on 6.06 with a close in shot by Jon Beckett.

The Chieftains started to relax and allowed the Northstars to get back into the match, which they took advantage of, on 14.31 a fast break, cross to the back post, goal by Dan Rice.

The Chieftains started the second period fast, on a Northstars power play, Andy Power showed his skill by weaving around the defence and planting a shot low into the net at 21.41.

Once more the Chieftains relaxed and played keep hockey, once more they came unstuck, as the Northstars chased everything and in a scramble around the net and scored at 28.23 only for it to be disallowed for net off moorings.

Not phased by this set back, the Northstars scored on 29.53 with Jason Briggs and again on 30.27 by Brian Flanders to equalise.

Once more it was Power who woke up first and again showed his skill on 34.31 with a weaving run and shot, the Chieftains put the match beyond reach with goals on 34.53 by Steve Birch and again on 35.30 by Andy Hannah.

Amyotte added the seventh on 39.17, Birch the eigth on 41.06, the Northstars did get one back on 43.29 on a breakaway by Villis Abele.

The match was wrapped up with goals by Amyotte on 44.09 and Power on 44.28.
