A fourth post office in Colchester could face closure under a scheme to make the remaining town branches more cost effective.
Bergholt Road post office was added to branches in East Hill, Hythe Hill and Butt Road, being considered by the Post Office for closure.
And Colchester MP Bob Russell blasted the proposals, laying the blame with the Government.
The MP blamed Government moves to pay pensions and benefits directly into people's bank accounts, negating the need for post offices to handle them.
A spokesman for the Post Office said it was important to emphasise no final decision would be made on the branches until a period of public consultation was complete.
To give your views on the proposals you must write, by February 28, to: National Consultation Team, PO Box 641, St Albans, AL1 5XN.
