Police in Wickford are urging residents and businesses to be on their guard following a spate of thefts in the area.
Thieves forced open the kitchen window of a house in Friern Gardens, Wickford, and stole a Philips DVD player and jewellery worth £1,400.
Fishing equipment, a lawnmower and a drill worth £2,000 were stolen from a shed which had its padlock forced in Kershaw Close.
A fax machine, a microwave and a yellow box of screwdrivers worth £1,000 were stolen from an office in Nevendon Road.
Power tools worth £500 were taken from Runwell Hospital, Runwell Chase, and the utility room at a house in Manor Close was forced open and thieves stole jewellery and china worth £300.
A police spokesman said: "People should take care to make sure all their valuables are secure at all times."
