A Thundersley church is trying to entice youngsters to Christianity by showing them that it isn't all about sermons and songs of praise.

The Congregational Church in Kenneth Road holds monthly fun nights for the children and they have been going from strength to strength as more sign up.

Over 70 of them turned up at the church on Saturday evening where they were entertained by PlayStations, dance mats, snooker and pool.

A cafe selling pizza, chips and hot dogs was set up in the church to keep their energy topped up and there was also a DJ, competition and give-aways.

Organiser Richard Keeler said that although the evening was primarily about entertainment, there was an underlying Christian message.

He said: "The evening is about having fun, but it also allows youngsters who might normally think church is boring to come along, meet new people and learn what Christianity can offer."
