Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough has ruled himself out of the Colchester United managerial hot-seat.

The Conference League manager has been linked to the position following the dismissal of former U's boss Steve Whitton last week but Clough strongly denied the speculation.

The former England international and Nottingham Forest midfielder told the Evening Gazette: "I have not and will not be applying for the job.

"I am under contract at Burton Albion and have no intention of breaking that contract."

Clough's name was thrown into the hat for the vacancy following whispers that the 36-year-old had been spotted in the crowd for recent matches at Layer Road another rumour that Clough quashed.

Steve Parking has vowed to turn the club around if he is offered the vacant manager's job.

"I'm certainly interested in the job as any out of work manager should be," said the former Barnsley, Mansfield and Rochdale boss.
