Relief and pleasure are two emotions running high among a group of villagers who successfully fought off a phone mast. And they would do it again.

Telecommunications company Orange has had its application to site the mast opposite the entrance to Keepers Green, Braiswick, turned down - it has been leaked to the Evening Gazette

The application is due for consideration by a Colchester Council planning committee at the town hall tonigh but Matt Eaton (Con, Mile End) revealed the decision last night.

The Braiswick Residents' Association is delighted the application has been knocked back.

Chairman John Bentley said: "I feel pleasure and relief.

"We have been fighting this since it first started three months ago since before the planning application went in in December."

He said if the matter goes to appeal the residents would stand and fight it again.

Nick Taylor (Con, Mile End) and Matthew Eaton (Con, Mile End) joined the fight on the side of the residents.
