Canvey Island Swimming Club kicked off the 2003 Essex Championships in style with four gold, six silver and two bronze medals from the 20 finals they made.
Three of the club's swimmers were crowned champions at Fulwell Cross with 12-year-old Chris Chenery enjoying twin success in the butterfly and backstroke events.
Although 50 metres is not his strongest distance, recent training trechniques paid off for Chris and he set lifetime bests in both swims.
Also victorious was Canvey's fly specialist Clare Thomas. Although not a great 50m swimmer, Clare destroyed the rest of the field in setting a new personal best and club record.
Alyson Moran, 14, won her favoured breaststroke event. Her almost fairytale rise to the top was rewarded with an outstanding swim in the final after leading the heats.
