A man suffered horrific crush injuries to his hand after he became trapped in a printing press.
The 49-year-old had been cleaning the press at Britton Mailing, a polyethylene and polythene envelope manufacturers, on the Temple Farm Industrial Estate, Southend, when his hand slipped.
He was left dangling 5ft in the air as the rollers dragged him up. Colleagues tried to support the man while emergency crews were called.
Paramedics and firefighters were able to free the man within 15 minutes of arriving at the scene.
A spokeswoman for Essex Ambulance Service said: "We administered pain relief while fire crews worked on freeing him, then rushed him to Southend Hospital.
"The man had very severe injuries to his right hand and is due to be transferred to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford where he can receive specialist micro-surgery."
