A reruitment campaign was today under way to fill 18 vacancies for lollipop women and men across Southend.
A council spokesman said: "This is not a funding issue, but due to the fact that at the moment we don't have enough recruits who wish to carry out school crossing patrols.
"We would welcome approaches from anyone who would wish to carry out this work.
"At the moment we have 18 vacancies across the borough."
A recruitment campaign is being launched by Southend Council to find both permanent and relief patrol officers.
Application forms and a job description can be had by contacting the jobline, which has a 24-hour answering service, on 01702 215392, quoting reference TS 51.8130/2350.
