Radical changes to the asylum system is the only way to develop a "fairer and safer system", according to Castle Point's MP.

Bob Spink today called on the Government to take urgent action for the sake of genuine refugees and the British public.

He said: "It is first the duty of any Government to protect the public.

"It seems increasingly clear that we no longer know who is walking the streets of our towns and cities.

"The Government must take immediate action to introduce 24-hour a day monitoring of all port entries and it should ensure that no person is allowed to walk the streets until they have been properly vetted by the security services."
