Novelty playing cards showing Canvey's artistic welcome sign have been printed to raise cash to help regeneration work.

Games and Print Services, in Kings Road, Charfleets industrial estate, Canvey, made the 1,000 cards to support the Canvey 2000 regeneration group.

The cards feature a picture of the stainless steel sails on the island's Waterside Farm roundabout that say Welcome to Canvey Island.

On the back of each card is the logo for Canvey 2000 with a caption detailing what work the charitable group does for the island.

Dennis Williams, chairman of Canvey 2000, said he was delighted the company had helped.

He said: "We will sell each set of cards for £2.49 and all the money raised will be put towards funding projects we are involved in.

"The cards, which will be sold in shops across Canvey, are real quirky one-offs and we have already had people placing orders."

Paul Roberts, an owner of the company, said they wanted to help the regeneration group as they were a Canvey-based business and supported the improvements the group was trying to make.
