Sad, surprised and disappointed Martijn Reuser was full of emotion when he was told he could leave Ipswich on a free transfer.

With his first baby due any time, it was hardly the news the Dutchman wanted.

But two weeks on, the 28-year-old admits he's got over the shock and has set himself a new goal to win his place back in the Town side.

Oh, and a winning goal in the play-off final wouldn't go amiss.

Speaking frankly to the Evening Gazette, Reuser, who admits he's still trying to get used to being a new father, said today: "I respect the club's decision.

"I understand they have to look at their financial situation, but I was still a bit shocked and disappointed and a bit sad.

"However, I am still an Ipswich player and I will continue to give 100 per cent until the day I leave this place.

"Even though I have been told I can go, nothing has changed in that respect."

When announcing the decision to give Reuser a free, Town boss Joe Royle said the winger didn't fit into his system.

But this hasn't knocked Reuser's confidence.

"I look at Jim Magilton and Fabian Wilnis and they were in a similar position to me not so long ago.

"And I am convinced that I am going to play a big part this season."
