Roy Dyer has fired the first shot in encouraging Brentwood residents to turn in their replica guns ahead of a possible amnesty in the town.
Mr Dyer, of Brentwood Events, used the guns with the Essex Dog Display Team and decided to hand them in to Brentwood Police to be destroyed as they were no longer used by the group.

He said: "With the Government looking at changing legislation to make these type of guns illegal I thought I would get rid of ours now and maybe encourage others to do the same.
"When I asked the police the best way to do this they suggested I went to them so they could destroy them. I was worried that if I threw them out someone else might pick them up.
Sgt Piers Quinnell of Brentwood Police thanked Mr Dyer and urged others to do the same.
He said: "We have not had a gun amnesty in Brentwood but there might be one in the future."
"Until then or until Government legislation comes in banning these replicas we would again strongly urge everyone to not carry them in public."
