Pensioners are being targeted by bag-snatchers in Chelmsford town centre.
Police have urged the elderly to be on their guard following a spate a bag thefts.
Sgt Chris White said: "They seem to be targeting elderly people. With about 14 to 15 happening a week, this is becoming an increasing offence in the town."
A 77-year-old woman was the most recent victim when she was targeted at Superdrug in High Street.
Sgt White said: "As a young Asian girl distracted her, someone took her purse, which contained door keys and credit cards."
He called for anyone who experienced a bag snatch to get in contact with Chelmsford police. Anyone with information should call 01245 491212.
