Frank Lampard Senior says he won't apply for the Colchester United manager's job but promised to speak to the club if they approached him.
The West Ham legend has been out of football for the past 18 months, but told the Gazette he would be ready to come back if he got the call.
"I would certainly talk to the club if they contacted me," said Lampard, who played 551 times for West Ham and was assistant manager to Harry Redknapp for seven years.
Hinting that the time may be right to go for a manager's job, Lampard said: "The number one's job is the one to have and I'd certainly be interested in finding out about more about the Colchester position.
"Sometimes I do miss the day-to-day involvement of football."
