A rethink of car parking charges has been called for in Harwich.

Harwich Conservation Panel said it was concerned about parking congestion caused by people finding alternative spaces.

John Donnelly told a meeting Harwich needed every encouragement in attracting tourists.

He said: "Harwich is a unique place and has to be considered on its own merits rather than harmoniously with everyone else.

"Everyone is doing their best to get people here and we don't want anything that detracts people from coming."

The panel agreed to find out how much money had been raised since the charges were introduced.

It also called for a review of charges, including the possibility of free parking for an hour or after 6pm from September to May.
