Police are appealing for witnesses after the tyres of more than 30 cars were slashed on the same evening.
All of the incidents happened in Walton town centre.
Inspector John Hayter of Clacton police said: "We have never known it quite so bad."
The tyres of the 31 vehicles damaged were in Saville Street, Station Road and High Street and were all cut in a similar way.
Anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously should contact the police on 01255 221312.
