Wakering pulled off their third successive Ryman League Division One North victory by seeing off the spirited challenge of basement club Hertford Town at Burroughs Park.
There were few incidents of note in a disappointing first-half with Keith Wilson heading just over from Tommy Dalgarno's diagonal ball after 14 minutes and Lee White retaliating for the visitors three minutes later with a free-kick which dipped over from 20 yards.
Hertford goalkeeper Chris Fitkin had to be alert to tip a Mark Hampshire effort round a post after 21 minutes, but most of the action on a bitterly cold afternoon came after the break.
In fact, the second-half was just two minutes old when top scorer Dan Trenkel took advantage of a long through ball to round Fitkin and shoot home the opener.
Hertford, seven points adrift of penultimate club Leyton Pennant, refused to lay down and die and Phil Leggatt sent in a 64th minute effort which home goalkeeper Dave Hudson palmed away.
But Wakering clinched the points with seven minutes to go when Neville Hickton's free-kick was knocked across goal by Trenkel for Dalgarno to add the finishing touch.
