The people of Brentwood are leading the way to New Age enlightenment.
The town has emerged as the top town in Britain for the sale of alternative remedies and foods.
The survey, conducted by the consumer information company Claritas, revealed that a staggering 64.6 per cent of households in Brentwood claim to buy alternative remedies and foods.
The report is based on results from an extensive shoppers survey distributed across the UK every year.
The findings have come as no surprise to Pam Aziz, manager of the Holland and Barrett store in Brentwood's Chapel High shopping centre.
She said: "I have been here for more than 20 years educating people on what they should be eating and taking to enjoy better health.
"We have a large percentage of older people in Brentwood and many have joint problems. Our top sellers are Glucosamine and Chondroitin which people take for joints, arthritis and sports injury problems."
