Braintree police are investigating a series of attempted burglaries along Rayne Road on the night of February 18.
In the first incident a padlock on a garden shed in was forced but nothing was stolen.
Later the rear door to the Danlec Electrical and Lighting store was damaged after someone tried to gain access to the premises.
A launderette also had its rear door forced and at 4.30am the electricity was turned off. Police said an attempt was made to force open the cash containers on various washing machines, but no cash was taken. There was some damage to the machines.
Police believe that the theft of £23 from the Sue Ryder Charity Shop in Panfield Lane on the same night may also be connected. Thieves broke into the premises and stole the cash from a till.
