One Vange councillor has expressed his disgust at the comments made by John Buchanan, while another thinks people from Billericay should give the idea of moving to Vange serious thought as it might actually make them happier.
David Abrahall (Labour, Vange) said: "It's absolutely disgusting. This will do nothing but damage to the people of Vange and can only be detrimental to the area.
"There has been lots of good news for Vange, with schools in the area being taken out of special measures and improvements in social housing."
Swatantra Nadanwar (Labour, Vange) said: "The people of Vange are very friendly. Anyone from Billericay who's thinking of coming to Vange would be welcome."
