A burglar threw a chair at a witness who caught him and two accomplices stealing from a residential home.
The three burglars, all aged 15 to 17, got away with a CD player and a bottle of red wine worth more than £100.
They got in to Longman's Residential Home in Rampart Street, Southend, but made a swift exit when a member of staff spotted them. They threw a chair at her, which missed.
They were all white and two of them wore hats, while the other one wore a black anorak.
