A pensioner with a serious brain haemorrhage had to wait more than a day in Basildon Hospital's A&E before being transferred for specialist treatment, it has been claimed.
Now the hospital's chief executive has ordered an investigation into the delays allegedly suffered by 73-year-old William Langford, whose family say his condition deteriorated dramatically as he waited to be moved.

His son Mark accused the hospital of poor management and taking away his father's dignity.
Mr Langford of Sandon Road, Basildon, was taken to the department when a headache grew so bad he started acting bizarrely.
Mark, of Kent View Road, Basildon, his dad had to wait an hour before an examination was finally carried out in the middle of the busy department, because no compartment could be found.
Mr Langford was eventually transferred to Oldchurch Hospital, Romford.
